Plethora of Rumors on LG G3: Release Date, Back Camera, Processor and 2K Resolution

A series of rumors have been released in recent time on LG G3. LG is staying completely mum over these rumors. As no official confirmation or denial is at our hand, we are literally on our own to speculate anything and everything. That's what the industry has been doing. The moment a leak or a piece of information is coming up, irrespective of how tiny or insignificant it is, the whole industry is taking it as coming from the horse's mouth.

Let's give a look at the recent rumors. Most of them are on hardware specs. In August last year, the IPS (In-Panel Switching) LCD screen was showcased by LG. The screen was QHD and 5.5 inch in size. The screen resolution was 2560 x 1440. On September 12 when LG G2 was released, only the IPS display was found with a 5.2 inch screen. Industry observers realized then that most of the cool features showcased would be found in LG's next installment i.e. LG G3.

If G3 launches with 2K resolution, users will be highly impressed. Rumors also add that G3 will be equipped with a 16MP rear camera and LG's own octa-core Odin processor. Earlier it was heard that G3 will have Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor. But it seems LG has decided to introduce its Odin processor already. An agreement was signed between ARM and LG last year, which enabled LG to use 64 bit capable ARM Cortex-A50 series processors. Sources suggest the LG would assemble its Odin processor by 4 quad core ARM Cortex processors.

LG G2 is equipped with quad-core 2.26 GHz Krait 400 processor. If G3 indeed releases with Odin processor, that would be a step ahead. The octa-core Odin processor had already appeared in AnTuTu Benchmark Score in December 2013. Its score was 27184 as speed of 100 MHz to 1 GHz. If the speed is increased, the performance will be even better.

G3 may have a 16MP rear camera. There's little dispute on this. Some believe the back camera will be of 13 megapixel. However, the back camera is most likely to be of 16MP because LG G2 already has a 13 megapixel camera and we can expect improvements in G3.

As indicated by most rumors, LG G2 will have a 5.5 inch screen. There are two reasons LG will increase the screen size of G3. First, to Galaxy S5 and HTC M8 will launch in this year. These devices may arrive with bigger screen. To give them a fight, G3 needs to have large screen. Another reason which is even more convincing is to accommodate 2K resolution. A tiny screen is not adequate for 2K resolution display.

LG G3's release date is pegged for May 17. There's a rumor that LG is the manufacturer of Google Nexus 6. If that really is the case, Nexus 6 will have similar specs as G3. Google may unveil Nexus 6 at the I/O conference. Thus, May 17 is the opportune time for LG G3 release.

LG G3 may have water-resistance and dustproofing features. Smartphones that have been releases in recent time such as Samsung Galaxy S4 Active and Sony Xperia Z3 are waterproof and dust resistant. Even low end phones like Sony Xperia Go and Xperia Acro also have these features. Undoubtedly for LG, making G3 water and dust resistant is a must.

We' are keeping our eyes at the industry. If a new rumors come up, we'll report it.
